The 8th International Conference and Workshop on Biological Barriers 2010 is committed to the pulsating questions in the triangle of in vitro tools, nanotoxicology, and nanomedicine. Due to the increasing need to investigate the safety and potential risks of new nanomaterials a new area of science - nanotoxicology - is currently emerging. Although the expected answers might be different, nanotoxicology in many cases asks similar questions as nanomedicine and the same in vitro tools of biological barriers are obviously most relevant. Substantial part of the programme will therefore be dedicated to this topic and addressed by well known international experts, making the conference and workshops most interesting to pharmaceutical scientists, material scientists, biologists, and toxicologists.
LabCourse I - Date 25/26 March 2010, 4 modules
1. Synthesis of nanoscaled materials
2. Optical characterisation of nanoparticles
3. Visualization techniques in the nano-regime
4. Transport studies across mucosal epithelial cells
LabCourse II - 30 March - 1 April 2010, 4 modules
1. Skin preparation and permeation experiments
2. Skin segmentation and penetration experiments
3. Visualization of skin samples by different microscopic settings
4. Application of Raman microscopy for skin research
