“Nanomedicine: Visions for the Future” is a two day conference. The growth of knowledge across all sciences, underpinned by equally rapid development in a range of enabling technologies such as nanotechnology, informatics and materials technologies, means that we are currently approaching a crossroads in medicine where medical practice will begin to focus much more on adapting innovative new treatments to the clinical needs of the individual patient, based both on the specific nature of their disease and their individual genomic and metabolomic profile.

Special emphasis will be placed on industrial related topics. The meeting will help bridging the gap between fundamental academic research and industrial applications, offering the opportunity to initiate fruitful cooperation between university and industry.

The 8th International Conference and Workshop on Biological Barriers 2010 is committed to the pulsating questions in the triangle of in vitro tools, nanotoxicology, and nanomedicine. Due to the increasing need to investigate the safety and potential risks of new nanomaterials a new area of science - nanotoxicology - is currently emerging. Although the expected answers might be different, nanotoxicology in many cases asks similar questions as nanomedicine and the same in vitro tools of biological barriers are obviously most relevant. Substantial part of the programme will therefore be dedicated to this topic and addressed by well known international experts, making the conference and workshops most interesting to pharmaceutical scientists, material scientists, biologists, and toxicologists.

Bridging the Gap from Basic Research to Clinical Application

The application of nanotechnology will have a major influence in many fields of medicine. Novel nano-based materials appear in drug delivery systems, diagnostics, imaging, biosensing, and medical materials and devices.

This one-day workshop will address the current state of the art of research in the development of smart materials for biofunctionalized implants and engineered tissue. Leading experts from academia and SMEs will meet to define the best directions for future research in this field in the European setting.

In December 2010, experts from all over the world will gather for the 7th NanoMed conference in Berlin to discuss the state of the art in biomedical applications of nanotechnology.

Building a bridge from NanoImpactNet to nanomedical research

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research funds a Winter School course on ethical, legal and social aspects of nanobiotechnology and nano-medicine, which will be held by the Centre for Bioethics, Muenster University and bioanalytik-muenster, from 20th February – 25th February 2011 in Muenster. Young researchers of different academic fields will have the opportunity to present parts of their work and to discuss with renowned international experts in the field.

The first INTERA (INternational TEchnology Robotics Applications) Congress will bring together technical experts and researches from Academia and Industry working on Robotic Applications. This Congress will be a unique opportunity to disseminate the current state of robotic research and its applications in different fields. The program will include oral presentations, posters and simulations.

The annual meeting of the three spanish platforms of the Biomedical Research Technology will focus on the cooperation as a need in fields like research & design of new drugs, new technologies / products development, etc... 19th Biennial Meeting of the International Society for Molecular Recognition.

The Summer School is a biennial event to be held at different locations throughout Europe and in 2011 it will be hosted by the University of Halle-Wittenberg.

INEB will host the 1st Advanced Summer School of the series Interrogations at the Biointerface, which will be held in Porto from the 20th to the 24th of June 2011, to debate aspects that may be shared by cancer and regeneration.
