The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research funds a Winter School course on ethical, legal and social aspects of nanobiotechnology and nano-medicine, which will be held by the Centre for Bioethics, Muenster University and bioanalytik-muenster, from 20th February – 25th February 2011 in Muenster. Young researchers of different academic fields will have the opportunity to present parts of their work and to discuss with renowned international experts in the field.
The Winter school will focus on the concept and application of the precautionary principle in nanobiotechnology.
Topics include:
- Risk assessment in nanobiotechnology: concepts, methods, practical experience
- Ethical aspects of nanobiotechnology: personalized medicine, human enhancement, fair access, data protection, privacy
- Status of the precautionary principle in legal and political documents at the european level
- Different theoretical conceptions of the precautionary principle in the philosophical debate
- Legal aspects of the precautionary principle
- Implementation of the precautionary principle in nanobiotechnology
Up to 15 young researchers, i.e. postgraduates, PhD-students and postdocs, from all over Europe are invited to participate. Travel costs and accommodation costs will be defrayed by the organizers. The proceedings of the Winter school will be published.
